Riding on the success of the Xperia Z series, Sony has come out with another 5-inch HD-screen phone. Sony’s new flagship phone houses similar design characteristics as the erstwhile Xperia Z; however, the specs have been improved. With a distinctive flat-slab design and smooth edges, it is surely a better looking phone that its Android competitors. The Xperia Z1 is definitely a tiger in the performance department. It comes with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2 GB RAM. However, the phone faces the problem of getting really hot on the back (near the NFC side) with prolonged use, which is kind of a downer. Sony’s customization to the Android 4.2.2 definitely helps realize several shortcuts and promotes easy operability of the phone. The camera comes with a massive 20.7 megapixel sensor (1/2.3 inch), beaten only by the Nokia Lumia 1020 (41 megapixels);therefore, the image quality is the best in the Android category of smartphones. With a price tag of just under Rs. 41,000 (Flipkart), the phone will have an uphill battle measuring up with the competition (namely, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Nokia Lumia 1020) that offer just that much more for every buck spent.
